Are you exposing your family to harmful toxins?

Environmental Cleaning and Laundry Products:
For the Health of Your Planet, Your Home and Your Family

The unfortunate reality is that some of the most potentially harmful toxins can be found right where you live—in your home.

Many companies add undesirable ingredients to their cleaning products. In an effort to keep our carpets spotless, or our clothes and dishes sparkling clean, the average family may be exposed to a multitude of undesirable ingredients.

For instance, the most common poison exposures for children were ingestion of household products, such as cleaning substances.

Women often work closely with potentially toxic chemicals, and preliminary research suggests that their physiology is more conducive to absorbing and carrying these chemicals (Are Women at Higher Risk?). The health care costs from environmentally associated diseases in U.S. women are estimated to be 12.2 billion annually. The diseases include breast cancer, birth defects, autoimmune diseases and infertility.

Nearly 1 in 13 school-aged children have asthma. Between 1980-1994, asthma among children under five years old increased 160%! Strong smelling cleaners may start a child’s asthma attack.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

By using environmentally friendly cleaning and laundry products you rid your home of some of the most toxic ingredients. These cleaning products contain no ammonia, which is known to be an irritant to skin, eyes, and respiratory passages. No chlorine, which reacts with organic materials to create hazardous and carcinogenic toxins. No phenol, which can cause death if ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. And you’ll find no presence of a host of other carcinogenic chemicals and other undesirable ingredients found in other common household cleaners.

Plus, to protect our environment, our cleaning and laundry products contain no nitrates, phosphates or borates which use up large amounts of oxygen, resulting in the death of fish and other aquatic organisms. And of course, our products are not tested on animals.

And perhaps the best news is that with these cleaners you don’t have to sacrifice cleaning performance to be environmentally conscious. In fact, many these products OUTPERFORM leading brands. For instance, our liquid laundry concentrate outperforms leading laundry pre-spotters, like Spray n Wash and Shout, at removing blood, ink, grass and lipstick. Our fabric softner performs better static control than Downy.

Our cleaning and laundry products are concentrated, so there’s less landfill waste and more space in your home as well. Just one bottle of our famous organic household cleaner replaces dozens of hazardous household cleaners. And one quart of our organic cleaner makes up to 190 gallons of powerful cleaner with a 1,001 uses.

And finally our cleaning and laundry products save you money. Lots of money. One quart of germicide is equal to 372 22-oz bottles of Lysol antibacterial cleaner. And one quart of the organic household cleaner, when diluted as directed, is equal to 9 22-oz bottle of Simple Green, 188 quart bottles of Fantastik and 5,820 26-oz bottles of Windex!

With these cleaners, you protect the environment, protect the health of your family, and get better performance out of your cleaners, plus save money too! What’s not to like!

An easy way to switch to these cleaners is to order the Home Care Sampler Pack. It features five high-performing cleaning and laundry products for everyday use.

Would you keep a loaded gun under your kitchen sink?

Would you keep a loaded gun under your kitchen sink?

What's under your sink?
  • Bleach?
  • Ammonia?
  • Dishwasher detergent?
  • Window cleaner?

There are three ways these toxic chemicals can enter your body:

1. Ingestion
The most common cause of child poisonings

2. Inhalation
Toxic fumes can be released even when a chemical is tightly sealed in its container. Walk down the cleaning products aisle at your local supermarket and you can smell the toxic vapors. It's called outgassing.

3. Absorption
Any chemical which touches the skin is absorbed and spread throughout the body. Think of nicotine patches and analgesic creams.

For pertinent facts about chemicals that can directly affect your health and the well being of those you love and what you can do to protect yourself, read more from Dr. Doris Rapp, M.D., author of Our Toxic World: A Wake Up Call.

For an non-toxic, healthy home enviroment, consider Shaklee Healthy Home Products as a sensible alternative:
  1. econmical

And with the luxury and convenience of home delivery, your trip down that outgassing aisle in the supermarket can be history.

A True Earth Day Celebration

A Million Trees, A Million Dreams

Inspired by the visionary work of 2004 Nobel Peace laureate Dr. Wangari Maathai and The Green Belt Movement, Roger Barnett, Chairman and CEO of Shaklee Corporation announced that in honor of the company's 50th Anniversary, Shaklee is implementing a tree-planting campaign to celebrate Earth Day 2006 across the United States and Canada. Shaklee Corporation's more than 750,000 distributors and members will organize tree-planting events in their respective communities. The company's goal is to plant more than one million trees throughout North America, helping offset a significant portion of the CO2 the company produces while raising awareness of global warming.

"This year is particularly important for Shaklee because we are celebrating our 50th Anniversary, and in honor of our anniversary, we are inaugurating our biggest global environmental campaign on Earth Day - A Million Trees. A Million Dreams", said Barnett. "The Green Belt Movement shares Shaklee's model for promoting environmental sustainability. We would like to duplicate efforts of The Green Belt Movement in the United States and Canada. I thank Dr. Wangari Maathai for being such an inspiration to the people of Kenya and to people around the world and for setting an example for social responsibility and environmental activism."

"It is very important for us to appreciate the resources we get from nature - to receive with gratitude and not to waste, to use them responsibly and accountably," said Dr. Wangari Maathai. "With all the health products that Shaklee is involved in, they all come from the earth. Because they come to replenish our bodies to give us better health, it is very important to understand the earth must be healthy herself in order to give us products that can promote our health. Trees clean the earth. They clean the air. I am really happy that Shaklee is involved in this fantastic tree planting campaign. We will join them. We will be together."

Shaklee will also donate $100,000 to Dr. Wangari Maathai's Green Belt Movement so that she can plant another one million trees in Kenya, Africa. Established by Dr. Wangari Maathai thirty years ago, The Green Belt Movement is a grassroots organization that concentrates on planting trees by groups of women, helping to conserve the environment and improve the quality of their lives. Dr. Wangari Maathai was awarded The 2004 Nobel Peace Prize for her significant work with the environment.

Shaklee's Environmental Record: Actions Speak Louder than Words
For 50 years, Shaklee has promoted the principle of "Living in Harmony with Nature." Dr. Forrest Shaklee, our founder, believed in both the healing powers of natural products, and in our responsibility to be stewards for our environment. To combat water pollution Dr. Shaklee created Basic-H, one of the first organic, biodegradable cleaners back in 1960, before there even was an environmental movement!

To combat deforestation, Shaklee worked with the American Himalayan Foundation, an organization chaired by Sir Edmund Hillary, and contributed to having over 1 million trees planted in Asia. And in 2005 Shaklee offered its support to the Green Belt Movement in its efforts to plant trees in Africa.

Shaklee has also been active in the area of global warming since 1986 when the company funded a research project to the Artic with explorer Will Steger to measure the impact of global warming on the icecaps, as well as research expeditions, in 1989 and 1996 to measure the acceleration of the melting icecaps.

Continuing its strong commitment to global warming, in 2000 Shaklee decided to take steps to offset its CO2 emissions, with the objective of having a net zero impact on global warming. As a result Shaklee became the first company in the United States to be certified Climate Neutral by investing in fossil fuel reduction projects to directly offset the amount of CO2 the company created. In 2002 Shaklee received the U.S. EPA's International Climate Protection Award, as well as the Environmental Stewardship International Award from Social Accountability Internationa,l for leadership on global warming.

Today, Shaklee leads the way again with it?s new A Million Trees, A Million Dreams campaign to plant a million trees both here and abroad.

We hope you'll join us in going green, saving green and making your world a healthier environment in the process.

Lower your carbon footprint!

According to safeclimate.net, your personal Carbon Footprint is a calculation of the carbon dioxide emitted as a result of your activities over the last 12 months. Carbon Footprints can be calculated for anyone or anything. A Carbon Footprint can be calculated for a journey, an event, a whole business or a city. It is a gauge that measures your impact on the planet through global warming.

Your personal Carbon Footprint is divided into three main components that involve your use of fossil fuels and therefore your emissions of CO2:

  1. home energy supply
  2. travel
  3. waste disposal

Calculate your carbon footprint.

The Climate Neutral Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping companies, communities and consumers achieve a net zero impact on the Earth's climate.

Shaklee U.S. has offset the greenhouse gas emissions for their entire business operations, becoming the first Climate Neutral Enterprise. You lower your carbon footprint by buying Shaklee products! Shaklee also offers a full line of biodegradable products.
